Safty
Bathrooms are the most humid rooms in our homes. So it’s absolutely essential to ensure you use the right water-resistant light fixtures where necessary.

Safety zones
Bathrooms are divided into 4 different “safety zones”. With safety zone “0” being the area most exposed to water and zone “3”, the least. Therefore it’s just a question of selecting a light fixture with the right IP rating for the zone where you will be using it. The higher its IP rating, the more water-resistant it is.
Zone 0: In the bathtub and shower
As this area is most exposed to water, no use of light fixtures is recommended here.
Zone 1: Above the bathtub and shower
This is below a height of 2.25m and requires a rating of IP65.
Zone 2: Outside bath and shower
Since this area is exposed to accidental water splashes, light fixtures used here must have a rating of at least IP44.
Zone 3: Everywhere else (except close to a bath or shower)
As long as the light fixture is out of reach of water it only requires a rating of IP21.
To play it safe, always use dedicated bathroom lights, like Philips myBathroom products. Just look for the IP ratings on the packaging to find the right ones for each zone.

PLEASE NOTE:
This short guide does not cover how to install light fixtures in your bathroom. Please always use a qualified electrician or refer to the specific wiring regulations for your country before installing light fixtures on your own.
